Everyone should opt out of the All Star game.

I would MUCH rather have a player on my team take a couple of days off, then go to some incredibly meaningless and pointless games and take 2 at bat's, or throw a handful of pitches.

Okay, OP, if you insist.

Altuve is nursing a leg issue and Correa's wife is going into labor with a new baby. That's the players' choices since the All-Star Game shouldn't really be the be-all, end-all. MLB can just let other votees have their chance to play.

And I assume the Ass-Star game is still for their pensions?

It was when I was a kid, but with the salaries I'm wondering if it's necessary....

Actually, Correa's wife is pregnant and won't have the baby until around November. Sorry for the misspeak in a previous post, but Carlos is going to be at his wife's side for right now. Nothing wrong with that. If players from any team have a reason not to play in the All-Star Game, then that's their right. All teams need to have their players healthy when the second half begins, and, sometimes, preventive measures have to be taken. Such is the case with Altuve, but there are a few others out there with similar issues and don't want to aggravate anything potential.

In any event, two more Astro players (Pressly and Brantley) will also opt out of this year's event for different reasons. Even though I'm disappointed the Astros won't get at least one inning out of its erstwhile entrants, if anything, it gives other players from around the league a shot at showing fans what they can do and have some time to shine. For personal reasons, I will not watch this year's event.

Just looking ahead, really, to the second half.
