No, the 17 games in a row for both the Mets and Braves had nothing to do with the late start. Those games were takced on to the end of the season.

In the pre-60s, the ratio of games-to-season dates was the same. Now it's 8 more games in 14 more dates, but more early postponements. In those days travel was by train, with a double header eveery holiday and most Sundays. With DHes, a tam might lose a dozeb gates, down to 65 from todays 81. -- guess who,put the kabosh on that.
