The first week of the season was "cancelled", not postponed. Does this mean they will not be made up, and teams will not play an equal number of games? So a team can finish a half game out of playoffs, and not have a chance to win that game in hand?

The week will be made up. They extended the season by 3 days, so what was supposed to be the first series of the year will now be the last series of the year (i.e the Yankees were scheduled to open @ Texas and now will end the regular season schedule @ Texas) which sets up some oddities like the Royals ending the season with 7 games in Cleveland or the Pirates & Cardinals playing 6 straight times 3 times each in St. Louis & Pittsburgh. The second series was more difficult to incorporate. 11 of the 15 series scheduled were divisional series, so those games will be made up as double headers on subsequent trips to that city during the season. For the other 4 non-divisional series (Yankees/Astros, Rangers/Marlins, Giants/Brewers, Tigers/A's) it was a little more difficult: the Yankees/Astros, and Tigers A's are playing a double header the Thursday after the All Star game at the ballpark the series was supposed to be at (Houston & Oakland respectively). The Rangers/Marlins are playing a single game in Miami that Thursday afternoon and making up the other 2 games in Miami with a double header in September. The Yankees traveled to Houston a couple weeks ago to make up that final game that was wiped out. For the final game of the Tigers/A's series, they played a double header earlier this year in Detroit where Oakland was the "home" team to make up for that final lost game. And the Giants/Brewers just marched to the beat of their own drum; they played a single game in Milwaukee back in late April or May, and they'll play a double header back in Milwaukee around Labor Day.

So, the whole schedule will be played barring those September rainouts that might not get made up if it's between 2 non-contending teams, but every team is scheduled for a full 162.

Well disabled was removed because people were getting all emotionally triggered because it offended disabled people.

...wokeism is why we now have the Cleveland Generics instead of the Cleveland Indians

back to the scheduling...this years schedue is terrible from my perspective. The Mets just beat the Braves today, & today's game was the 13th day in a row w/o a day off, and BOTH teams must pay 4 more straight before the all star break...17 days in a row...geez.

Is that because of the season starting late?

I am looking forward to the new scheduling where each division plays another division like the NFL does. Always wondered why MLB was jacked up like that.

The real problem is inescapable -- too much talent. The leagues had 16 teams, but since then, the talent pool is now 4x what it was, of bigger, stronger, healthier kids. The talent exists to field 80 competitive teams, but at today's salaries and ticket prices, the money doesn't.

We lose a few tall ones to the NBA and most Black ones to the NFL, but the real focus is in the guys who homer twice week and K ten times. Or hit 100mph a few times in a one-inning stint. Exit velocity and launch angle count more than hittting behind a runner.

Baseball used to be floated by civic pride -- most teams were non-orofit, like art galleries and symphony orchestras. Most players had winter jobs to support their families. That's not the way the world is anymoe, and it's not just baswball.

As for cancelled vs. postponed, they were going to be cancelled. The only reason those series are going to be played was because they ended the lockout when they did. If it lasts even 2 days longer, those first series were gonna end up being just that....cancelled, so I guess they didn't bother to rewrite the wording.

There's plenty of teams, even in a regular season that play 20+ games. I think the Yankees a few years ago played something like 54 games in 53 days because of earlier postponements. The Nationals were the only team that had to play the first 18 days of the season; everyone else had at least 1 off day. It happens to every team every year, usually multiple times a year.

That's great. I lived for 15 years on SS Disaility, for a hereditary "injury" When a few million Wokies indignantly hand back their hate-speech insulting benefits, SSA should be in good shape for a while. Here I thought it was "Lets change a rule" Manfred being Manfred.
