The Braves were swept by the Yankees at Turner Field in a 20-6 loss Sunday.

Julio Teheran (9-7) gave up nine hits, allowed eight earned runs including three home runs, and completed four strikeouts through four and one-third innings. Jake Brigham fared worse giving up nine hits, eight earned runs, and completing three strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings.

Reaction:
Pitching has been decaying recently. Either several pitchers have peaked in the Atlanta Braves system, pitching coach Roger McDowell is nearing the end of his tenure, or both.

Brigham should not play for several games. I think he was the worst pitcher in the bullpen in the loss.

Default Williams Perez Optioned to Gwinnett

The Atlanta Braves optioned Williams Perez (4-5) to Gwinnett Saturday.

Perez performed well before an injury placed him on the disabled list. Since coming off the disabled list, Perez has been on a steady decline. I do not know if he has peaked in the system, or he is playing with effects of the injury.

He was moved down to bring Brigham back up for some bullpen depth. He will rejoin the team tomorrow when the roster expands.

Braves traded Gomes to the Royals with cash for an A-ball middle infielder (Luis Valabeuna). Didn't crack KC's Top 30 prospects, but he put up a good slash line between rookie and A ball this season.

Good trade.

Default Game #131 (2015-08-31, 19:10): Marlins 4, Braves 0

Shelby Miller (5-12) got the start over Mike Foltynewicz. The change was not enough to end Miller's winless streak, now at 19. The Braves failed to produce runs, and lost 4-0 to the Marlins.

Miller gave up six hits, allowed one earned run on a home run, and completed four strikeouts across seven inning. Matt Marksberry fared worse allowing two earned runs on two hits and completing a strikeout in the eighth inning.

After he improves, Perez is welcome to rejoin the team. He had opportunities to rebound. They have not been good enough.

I hate to see Gomes go, but this is a win-win situation. The Royals get help for a postseason run. The Braves have an open position for others to step up and play, and have a prospect to develop in the farm.
