Technically, the Braves can't send Colon to Gwinnett. The Braves would basically have to DFA Colon (sort of MLB's equivalent of cutting him) and, once he cleared waivers, then they could either cut him or assign him to Gwinnett. In this case, they would just cut him once he cleared waivers (almost a certainty, as I doubt any other team would want to claim him and pay his salary for the rest of this season), as they wouldn't want to embarrass him by assignment him to AAA and I have no doubt that he wouldn't want to go to AAA, despite how much he has struggled.

No one would miss Colón. Colón has stunk up the clubhouse, and it is time for the Braves to air out the stink. He can redeem himself by pitching better and winning starts.

He appears to do better with more frequent playing time. Tough to just be a pinch hitter.

Colon does not need to go to the minors- he needs to retire. Peterson is young, and may get better, Colon will not.

After this season, Colón would be lucky to find any club willing to take him.

Are the Braves FINALLY ready to release Colon after another "batting practice" performance last night vs the Phillies? He is embarrassing himself, and the team. I can only guess they don't want to release him before his "bobblehead" night this Friday. They are not being fair to the other players, nor the fans by keeping him. Please do not suggest a move to the bullpen- he simply cannot get Major League hitters out anymore.

Snitker deserves blame for keeping Colón in the rotation. The Braves should be focused on winning games now instead of riding Colón for that necessary loss.

Some of the beat writers online are suggesting that the Braves will move Colon to the bullpen rather than releasing him and eating the money. I do think he has definitely made his last start and that they will probably call up Newcomb to take his spot in the rotation.
