I can't wait for MLB to bring in aluminum bats with 3 1/2" barrels to artificially mess with even more records. Hell, in extra innings maybe each team can start with the bases loaded and every at bat starts with a full count. Let's blow up some runs records while we're at it. How about lowering the mound oh, let's say about 15 inches, so that the pitchers can pitch out of a 5" hole.

Records are made to be broken, right?
While the 40 home runs and being in the 40-40 club puts Ronald Acuña Jr in the same league as Canseco and Bonds which he just missed before it is the 68 and counting steals where he has a chance of doubling his previous personal best season in 2019 that brings in the rule change questions

NY Times is reporting this today:

Quote:
Thanks to a 15-second clock that prevents players from dawdling between pitches, the average game lasted just two hours and 40 minutes this season, down a remarkable 24 minutes from last season. ... Fans seem to have noticed, too: Attendance rose 10 percent, to its highest level in six years.

I gotta admit..I like the new rules so far as the pitch clock.. The ONLY drawback to it is after a home run, they generally don't have time on TV to show a replay. You're into the next batter before the replay comes up..

So.. I might like to see a little wiggle room on that. After a homerun, instead of the 30(?) seconds for the next batter.. Maybe up that to 45? Just for a little more time for the replay. And.. Honestly, I could get behind this if it were only in the playoffs..

After watching a LOT of baseball lately I feel it's time to somehow automate the calling of balls and strikes. I've seen a lot of pitches that looked to be called wrong by the home base umps. Checked swings calls need some improvement too. Technology might be able to help with this, though it will be a tough nut to crack.

I'd forgotten about the limitation of the use of the extra runner in the 10th inning plus. In Game #1 of the WS, I expected to see that extra runner in the 10th inning.

I also didn't realize until this WS that the 'facing at least three batters' rule for a pitcher is only 'intra inning'. If the last pitcher in an inning only faces two batters....he doesn't have to come out the next inning to face one batter.
