9/9......

Rangers are on the outside looking in re the postseason.

Only 1 1/2 games behind the Mariners and the Blue Jays in the Wild Card race (Rays on top in that race)......but the 1 1/2 games = a huge drop off in (per ESPN.com) making the playoffs percentage chance......78.7% chance for the Blue Jays and 40.0% for the Rangers (81.9 for the Mariners, 97.8 for the Astros, and >99.9 for the Rays).

Seven MLB teams should finish with 3 million fans. The Astros need just 72,000 paying fans in their final regular season three-game home series to achieve that. Also knocking on that door are the Phillies and Braves.

Today is the first time I heard of the Cy Yuk award. I suspect that's an inside joke at the NY Times. Anyway, they nominate several pitchers with a dismal 2023 season.

Their top nominees for the Cy Yuk Award in 2023 are:

American League: A tie between both KC Royal pitchers Jordan Lyles and Zack Greinke, with a combined record of 6-32, combined ERA of 5.77, combined record in games they started of 13-43, and combined OPS of 7.98

National League: The Dodgers Noah Syndergaard, with 12 starts but only 1 win, ERA of 7.16, .313/.350/.551/.900 opponent slash line and 20 SB, 1 caught stealing. Ouch.

Cincinnati loses to the Cards, so the D-Backs are in the playoff picture in the NL.

And in the AL, Houston wins and Texas wins, so Seattle is out. The West division will be decided tomorrow.

Alright, everyone. Here, now, is the moment we've all waited for, and that's that ever-important postseason bracket. Take a look in the link below:

The first axe has fallen. Mets Manager Buck Showalter was fired yesterday as MLB's most expensive roster ended up at 74-87. Ya gotta blame someone....

Was he truly fired? I thought it was more.. And it may just be semantics.. but I thought it was more a mutual decision or more his.

Man is 67 years old.. Mets appear to be rebuilding again.. So, he might just not be up for that again.

He is something of the Marty Schottenheimer of the baseball world.. One of the best managers to never win a world series. Or even make it to a WS.

Have any of you seen a post season MLB game so poorly attended as this Rays game?

I don't know if I've ever seen one that didn't sell out, much less much lower than capacity attended.

What is that about?
