Albert Pujols needs to be out of the lineup for a few games. In the past few games, he looks very tired. He looks bedraggled, his body language, his facial expression, his movements. He's striking out a lot. But the Cardinals have nobody to spell him. DeRosa has played 23 games at first in his 12 year career---nobody else on the team has played more than a half a dozen there.

If LaRussa keeps dragging Albert out there on his bad legs, he's going to ruin the teams chances this year, he's going to ruin the chances of resigning Pujols when the Yankees come calling, he might even ruin the career of arguably the best hitter ever.

The Cardinals are off this coming Monday, and the following week they have no game on Thursday. Pujols could be given the game off before either of those free days and get a two day rest.

The Cards have been hot, winning 13 of their last 15, opening up an 8 game lead in the NL Central, the largest margin of comfort held by any of the division leaders. They can probably afford to have Pujols miss a game.
