Well, the O's managed to lose again today; taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th and then BLOWING it.

Look at this recap of the bottom of the 9th; unbelievable.

- J. Johnson (Baltimore) relieved C. Meredith
- A. Rosales singled to shallow center
- C. Pennington sacrificed to first, A. Rosales to second
- E. Patterson ran for A. Rosales
- R. Davis struck out, reached on wild pitch (Huh?)
- R. Davis to second on wild pitch (another wild pitch!)
- D. Barton intentionally walked
- R. Sweeney singled to shallow right, E. Patterson and R. Davis scored, D. Barton to second
End of game; final score: Oakland 4 - Baltimore 3.

The O's are now 1-11, with NINE straight losses.

Yahoo has these tidbits: "...Oakland has won 9 straight home games against Baltimore. ... The Orioles fell to 1-11, their worst start since opening the 1988 season with 21 consecutive losses, and lost third baseman Miguel Tejada to a possible leg injury in the sixth ..."

The O's start today at 2-14, with BOTH wins coming to starter Brian Matusz

Things can only get worse; the O's are in Boston this weekend and it's bound to raise the team ERA when they play in Fenway.

O's had a 2-0 lead going into the 9th inning tonight against Cleveland.

Cleveland scored EIGHT runs in the top of the 9th. Eight runs. Geeze.

At 12-25, the O's are the worst team in baseball.

I was thinking of the Orioles the other day, of those strong teams Weaver had in the mid 60's to early 70's.

Mark Belanger, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, etc. etc.

What has happened to this club Mike?

The short answer is Peter Angelos happened, though to be fair the Orioles were slipping as an organization in the latter half of the 1980s even before Angelos bought the team.

What happened is the new owner is a rich lawyer who hasn't a clue about how to run a team. It doesn't help that they have to play in the AL East with deep pocket teams like Boston and the NY Yankees. Mostly it's the owner.

Yeah, I remember 1971, when the O's had FOUR 20-game winners on the starting rotation.

Today the Yankees completed a sweep of the O's, still the worst team in baseball with a 15-39 record, and having lost 8 straight.

Well, something had to give.... Today the O's fired the Manager, Dave Trembley (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ahq569bPPKuGLP4ezpmN6vkRvLYF?slug=ap-orioles-trembleyfired - broken link).... The article points out the O's are LAST in just about every category.

Excerpt:

- Dave Trembley was fired Friday as manager of the Baltimore Orioles, who have the worst record in the major leagues and are staggering toward a franchise-record 13th consecutive losing season. Third base coach Juan Samuel was appointed interim manager by president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail, who hired Trembley to take over on an interim basis for Sam Perlozzo on June 18, 2007. The Orioles opened with 16 losses in 18 games, are 15-39 and coming off an 0-6 road trip in which they were outscored 34-8 in Toronto and at Yankee Stadium.

Can you say 110 losses? They appear headed that way now.

Expect more pinstripes than birds in the stands these next few days. It seems like Boston is the only team that the O's have a shot against, but I feel even some O's fans would rather drive down to DC to see Strasburg tonight. I suppose some AAA clubs could compete against the O's, and some AAA stadiums are drawing better crowds than Camden Yards!

The B'more Oreos will never have a chance in the AL east as long as the Yankees and BoSox remain. Same thing goes for the Jays and the Rays (TB's just having a fluke season).
