Well Jordan is a great strategist then. Only an idiot would be friends off the court and be friends off the court on opposite teams. Barkley and Jordan were great friends but they battled like hell on the court.
I do think when Jordan came back and especially when people felt he was leaving (Bulls) people were in awe somewhat, playing the Legend.
I think Van Gundy was trying to spark his own players with the comment....put some fire into them.
I also don't think it's an accurate statement. ANYBODY that has seriously followed the Bulls knows Jordan is a COLOSSAL competitor, sore loser and general A-hole at anything competitive. That he can be friends with someone and then be a complete killer on the court isn't a con, it's just how his personality works.
He punched Steve Kerr in practice, got pissed at his college roomate over ping pong....the list goes on and on and on.
