Dirk of course is the better player. I was surprised at how well he played defense too. If there was anything i thought Gasol had over Dirk was the defense aspect, but i was proven wrong in the playoffs this year.

Dirk. Not even close. And I'm a Lakers fan.

What Dirk did in the playoffs this year was the stuff of legends. Pau's done nothing like that, and I doubt he ever will.

I think Dirk by a long shot.

-Pau never got out of the first round of the playoffs with Memphis. I bet you Dirk would have lead them farther.

-Pau definitely benefited from Kobe, Odom, Phil Jackson, etc. Imagine Phil Jackson coaching Dirk? I bet he'd have a few more rings.

Dirk is more fundamentally sound. Kukoc was more versatile than Gasol.

Petrovic was very good, but Dirk just has way to much versatility and advantage.
Sabonis was good when he came to the NBA, but his best days were not in the NBA.
Gasol is very good, but Dirk is better.

Overall, I dont think its that close with any of them. Dirks stats and highs are much better, but beyond that he is the best mismatch player, maybe ever, not just European.

Excellent point and this didn't use to be the case.

I used to call him Irk Nowitzki because he had no D.

Notice how they re-tooled the Dallas team after the finals loss and Dirk worked on improving his defense? Voila championship.

King Dirk: The New Master Of NBA Marketability

Forget LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and their sponsorship deals; the NBA's new most marketable player isn't interested in truly cashing in on his fame.
Dirk Nowitzki has taken the crown as the most marketable man in pro basketball. The Mavericks star replaced Shaquille O'Neal, who retired.
Nowitzki, a 10-time NBA All-Star, has an N-Score of 132, a whopping 59 percent higher than Kobe Bryant's 83.
