Kareem could have not gone pro in 1968 and gone to the Olympics but there was no money.
People also don't realize every Olympian pays their own way either out of pocket or via sponsors you must get yourself.

How did Kareem go pro and play at UCLA in 1969? Wouldn't he have been able to play Olympics in summer 1968?
Wilt would have been too young for 1956 and pro by 1960. (Kind of like Mike Tyson just wasn't quite ready for boxing in the 1984 Olympics as he just barely lost in the Olympic trials).
I doubt the money was an issue for anybody we're discussing here. As anyone every been qualified to make an Olympic Team and declined because he "couldn't afford it"?
