With season predictions going on and assuming wiggins remains the consensus future franchise anchor....lets see who might be in the hunt and discuss.

NBA Draft Pick Debt Review | HOOPSWORLD | Basketball News & NBA Rumors

Orlando has their pick plus their choice of either the Knicks or Denvers picks.
So, if all heck breaks loose on one of those teams like an ACL injury to Carmelo etc. then Orlando might get a steal.

Otherwise, looks like most of the picks are pretty heavily protected and it will just go to teams with crappy records.

Why didn't you just post this in the existing thread, you started, about Andrew Wiggins...?

Because it's only partially related to him.

The main topic was to discuss the unprotected picks (which could lead to wiggins) and the teams whose traded picks might have value or not which came to mind when we were guessing which teams might fall out of the playoffs.

For example, a 2014 Lakers 1st rounder might have seemed of low value a couple years ago....but now it's almost certainly top 10. The article does a nice job of describing the picks protection levels (or not).

This is a good table on future picks

NBA Future Drafts Detailed - RealGM

Can you answer how the protected pick works? For example Charlottes 2014 pick to the Bulls is protected 1-10; does that mean Chicago can use it if Charlotte gets 11 or lower? Or can they elect to not use it and save it for 2015 or 2016 per the deal?

Can we just talk about the entire draft in general? I can't speculate right now who's going to get what because we all know that we can't judge who is a playoff team vs lottery team yet.... At least I don't think I can....

EDIT:

As a Bulls fan, I do look forward to the 2014 offseason.
1. We could have the Charlotte pick
2. Our own picks 1st round 15-30, 2nd round
3. Nikola Mirotic (2011 pick) will (possibly) sign with the Bulls finally.

I think that typically top 10 protected means you'd have to wait until Charolette gets a pick 11-30 range but they could have it expire or become unprotected etc etc.

Bulls have made some good later 1st round picks, there are definitely some gems that get found later on like Rondo back in 2006 @ #21.

It looks quite certain that the Sixers will have the worst record. Whether they get the #1 pick remains to be seen.

The Sixers may be tanking, but it seems the Suns are going full-tank mode as well. Race to the bottom this year.

What's more intriguing is that even if the Suns may miss out on Wiggins, they've still got 4 1st round picks this year, 3 of which (Their own, WAS, MIN) are potentially lottery selections.

From the earlier link:
Quote:
2014 first round draft pick from Minnesota
Minnesota's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-13 in 2014, 1-12 in 2015 or 1-12 in 2016; if Minnesota has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Phoenix by 2016, then Minnesota will instead convey its 2016 2nd round pick and 2017 2nd round pick to Phoenix [Minnesota-New Orleans-Phoenix, 7/27/2012]

2014 first round draft pick from Washington
Washington's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016, 1-10 in 2017, 1-10 in 2018 or 1-10 in 2019 or unprotected in 2020 [Phoenix-Washington, 10/25/2013]

2014 first round draft pick from Indiana
Indiana's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-14 in 2014-2019 or unprotected in 2020 [Indiana-Phoenix, 7/28/2013]

2015 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers
L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-5 in 2015, 1-3 in 2016 or 1-3 in 2017 or unprotected in 2018 [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012]
They probably won't get the MN or WA picks anytime soon.
the Indy pick will be a crappy 20+ pick.
The Lakers pick is potentially going to have some good value, especially if they finish in the basement and don't get the lottery ball, that could be a #6-7pick this year.

So thier "best case" IMO would be a top 4-5 pick of their own plus the Laker pick and then the Indy pick which is meh.

Not according to the people who've seen Jabari Parker(Duke) and especially Julius Randle(Kentucky) play..

I think Julius Randle is the most equipped to produce his rookie season.
