The Spurs play like they don't care for stretches of the 82 games.
OKC has defensive effort issues for stretches and most of the 82 games.
Lebron doesn't care, Kyrie doesn't care.
Not an excuse why Cleveland loses 25 games, OKC 26, but most teams are gearing up for a two month run at the end of the year and most teams are monitoring minutes throughout.
I think the key is starting off hot.
Most teams, even Cavs or Spurs (if they are younger) team possibly, would start thinking about pursing the record if they start off 15-0. Next thing you know, you are at 21-0 and you say what the heck, lets go for the longest winning streak or best start ever. It just kind of snowballs as the wins keep coming.
But again, it's about getting off to a fast start. A 16-2 start is a solid start, but at that point you already have the foot off the gas mentality and are okay with resting.
I'd think the Warriors would make sure to "take it easy" a bit during the regular season next year. Pop regularly sits his guys out, even in "big" games, during the regular season. He is working with an older crew, but still. Cleveland knew they'd roll through the EC playoffs. They probably knew even if they tried to win every regular season game, they still wouldn't have as good a record as GSW and would have to win a road game regardless. I don't know if they took it easy, but they definitely took their time in building their team up. Their goal was to be able to beat GSW as that was the likely matchup, not to stack up a bunch of meaningless wins.
Well remember too though, it was actually fairly close in the standings between the Warriors and Spurs late in the year. And then they saw each other twice in the final week of the season. It's not like the Warriors had a ton of room to "take it easy". Less than you would think for a 70+ win team anyway.
So that is another factor. Is there another team that is also playing well? It's not unheard of for a team to be on pace to win 67 games so if that is the case, a team on pace to win 70+ will keep pushing.
As everyone knows, the Golden State Warriors won an NBA record 73 games during the 2015-16 season, but they lost game 7 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cavaliers won the series 4-3 and the NBA Championship. Will another team ever win 73 games again in the foreseeable future?
Well maybe Curry shouldn't have rushed back to play however many games he did in the first 2 rounds. I don't think they needed him until round 3. At least they could have waited to lose 2 games in a series before putting him in.
Well if you are the Warriors wouldn't you want to redeem yourself? Only way possible is to win 73+ and the Championship.
All the Warriors should be focused on next year is winning the championship. They focused too much of their energy into getting the regular season wins record.
lol dumb question. Warriors just proved how irrelevant your regular season win loss record is.
That wasn't the question
