Mightas well make this a separate topic since we were mucking up the playoff thread; if this report is true, things don't look good between the two parties:
Leonard won't be wearing a Spurs uniform next year. If he hasn't damaged himself with this childish display of "I'm hurt" while the Spurs doctors say he fine, he'll probably be wearing a Lakers uniform. That's where he wants to play. Considering he only played 9 games this year, he's hardly worth anything to anybody. He can blame his Uncle for that. The man is clueless about managing any sports athlete and he's all but destroyed Leonard. The rift is between the uncle and the Spurs. Frankly, I wish they'd put his ass in the wind now. All he's done all year is bring the Spurs down with all of the controversy. It's bad enough with Pop running his mouth about politics and turning off most of the Spurs fans. Attendance is going to be WAY off next year and there will be LOTS of ticket discounts. To the good side. Seems like Aldridge has finally showed up. Last year he was worthless and I thought he was a majorly bad deal. He's really stepped up his game this year. Hopefully the Spurs can draft some good players to help Aldridge and get a decent coach. It's time for Pop to go away. He's now damaged goods due to his mouth. Hopefully Ms Holt will have the right people looking for the right coach. Maybe the Little General or possibly Duncan might want to wear the coach's cap. It will be totally different next year, that's for sure.
It's really a disheartening situation for Spurs fans.
They've always had a rock solid team and foundation, and I haven't followed them closely but the only time I remember that team having some discord was when Dennis Rodman played with them back in 1994 or 1995 I think and his aloof manner turned off his teammates. At one point he was sitting by the courtside without his shoes on without a care in the world. They got rid of him but he did go onto greater glory with the Bulls.
Anyways, Leonard was always one of the quiet ones who let his play do the talking. I would never have imagined him becoming like this. Some say he changed when he got rid of his agent and hired his uncle to be his rep.
I know people these days are quite forgiving and if Leonard does come back to the Spurs against all odds, he'd be quickly forgiven. But I don't see how the Spurs organization could forgive such disrespect, when the Spurs are playing their hearts out against the Warriors. I don't think he's even going to be with the team as they play at home.
I always defer to the player when it comes to disputes about injuries. Years ago there was a player named JR Richard for the Houston Astros. He had some mystery illness, and refused to play. He was widely accused of dogging it, but it turned out that he did have a blood clot, which eventually caused a stroke.
But of course there is no excuse for not staying in touch w/ the employer who is paying you. It's a surprise to me; I always heard that Leonard was a high character guy who drove an old car, and worked relentlessly to improve his game. The link does not give much in the way of confirmation that he really goes weeks w/out communication.
I hope this idiot isn't getting paid. I'm sure he is though unfortunately.
You're saying an injured player should not be paid? That's not how the NBA works (that's an NFL & . . . NCAA . . . tactic).

Color me unimpressed by an article offering little more than: Kawhi texts some teammates and not others. I'm pretty sure you could say the same about every other player in the NBA. I doubt that many players on IR are regularly communicating with their employer. The coach is working with the healthy roster to prepare for the games ahead. The injured player is rehabbing. There is probably communication between the team's medical staff and Leonard's medical team. What more do you want?
I believe that the Spurs are going to offer him a max extension contract.
Like I said people are rather quick forgiving these days.
I think they either trade him or max him. Those are the two options with an All-NBA talent. Injury questions are a serious risk. It is perhaps an equally serious risk not to sign an All-NBA player when you are in pole position. What would an acceptable trade package for Kawhi look like? Paul George sign & trade plus Roberson? McCollum, Harkless, and Napier? Dunn, Markennan, Payne, and Lopez? Beal and one of Porter or Oubre? Do you take any of this as San Antonio? I could see George and Roberson, but that's it.

I have a feeling they will make him an offer he can't refuse.
I think he'll get the max or near max. He's homegrown talent and you tend to not let homegrown talent walk. None of the trade packages listed above are worth Kawhi's talent. He's a polarizing 2 way player and PG is the only listed player who can play 2 ways. However, PG has not faired well in OKC this season. I think he's a 1 year rental for OKC.
