I don't think it is about being in a big market. It's about being in a great organization, where winning championships is part of the history of the team. The Lakers had 5 years of being in the dumps, Jeanie Buss rectified that problem by cleaning house. Now LA is becoming that destination organization for players who want to compete for an NBA title. This wont be that year, next year we will be back to competing for a title. My prediction for how many wins: It is 51 wins.

I didn't think the Lakers would rely on trey-shooting so much, yet they decided to attempted 30 treys in the season-opener.
Not a good sign, that they think trey-shooting is the way to go, despite not having enough trey-shooters to support that strategy....

Um, that narrative already started when he joined that team, I've made that very point to those thinking the Lakers are suddenly going to catapult back into contention.
Just look at some of the ridiculous predictions in the poll.
You're probably going to see a bloodbath of players this season via trade.....just like Lebron did when he came back to Cleveland.
They should be better but they're iffy to even make the playoffs.

Yep, that's what happens when you have a mix of very young and a bunch of new veterans.
I even mentioned the Miami squad (Wade-Bosch-Lebron) starting off the season 17-17 and that was in the east.
I then explained that even if they are a 50 win team once they get past first half of the season adjustments, if they start out 15-26 the first half of the season and go 25-16 the second half....they end up 40-42 and don't even sniff the playoffs in the west. (as an example)
Lakers are going to go another 20ish games and then start looking to move players they don't see as a long term fit with Lebron.
Lakers are on a good trajectory but this season is but a step in a journey that's going to take some time.

Every Lakers fan I know insists this isn't the case though.
"Lonzo is better even though his numbers aren't. He's basically got the same numbers Jason Kidd had as a rookie."

Lonzo could make a PBJ sandwich and Laker fans would be calling it the greatest feat ever. Ball may turn out to be a successful player, but as of now, he's clearly inferior to Tatum, Simmons and Mitchell, and I haven't seen anything that suggests he's going to be the transformative player Lakers fans say he will be. We need a larger sample size to see if he's truly gotten over his shooting woes and he still seems passive on the offensive end of the floor.
Who knows how many wins they'll notch this season, but I think Sir Charles made a good point the other night about this older version of Lebron not getting any easy games now that he's in the Western Conference. There are no Nets, Knicks, Magic, Hawks, Bulls, etc. to beat up on in the West. If Lebron tries to cruise during the regular season the way he did in Cleveland, the Lakers will struggle to get to .500.
If the Lakers lose will it be too early to say “welcome to the western conference Lebron”?
If the Lakers do get help next year, it might take a season to work out the bugs...problem might be that Lebron will be 35.5 yo entering the 2020 playoffs. Would he still be able to carry a team if you’re looking at winning a championship in 2 years?
