I don't mean now but throughout history. both are the clear two most successful franchises and has always been hated for their fanbase, money, and market. which two gets more hate overall?
Hmmm...I think the Showtime Lakers were better liked than Bird’s Celtics in the 80s, although there was a racial element to that rivalry that shouldn’t have been. A lot of people hated Kobe and his ego when they were winning, and the Garnett/Pierce/Allen trio was pretty likable. Right now the Celtics are a young, well-developed team built through the draft, and the Lakers are a carpet-bagging Lebron and an AD who was tampered with and poached away from a small-market team. I don’t hear anyone badmouth Russell’s Celtics or the Lakers from the 60s or 70s either.
I’d say right now the Celtics are definitely more likable but historically it’s about even.
I've always liked the Celtics from Allen, pierce and Garnett days. Don't go for them but they have a spot spot for me. I hate the Lakers though as I go for the Mavs.
I never had a favorite NBA team. My unique way with the NBA was more personnel based in liking/hating a team. In the 80s, I hated the Celtics because of Bird and plus Magic was more likeable. In the 90s and 2000s, I hated the Lakers because of Kobe (RIP!, but sorry I never liked him).
I hated them evenly. My guess is the Celtics, most likely because of the region and racial history (true or not).
From what I know, and no offense to anyone, but I feel like a lot of people have distain for Boston fans, especially when one of their teams is winning, therefore that particular team is hated.
You either love them or can't stand them. They are always talked about even when they have a 6 year playoff drought. The talking heads on tv and radio like to think sports fans care about who the Lakers should draft, trade for, etc. The reality is that outside their fanbase, no one gives a damn and doesn't need or want sports show to turn into "Inside the Lakers daily". There are more interesting teams out there but the Lakers are always headline #1. Their fans, let's just say they are not pleasant to deal with in visiting teams arenas.
Celtics. You know, pre-KG/Allen joining them, I don't remember a lot of attention given to them. Their history seemed forgotten about before that off-season. Their fans are annoying, but in my experience they seem to be more knowledgeable on their teams history and current roster than Lakers fans are.

Larry Bird? And before that Bill Russell and all those championships?

I think she means as a continual media presence hogging all the attention like the Lakers do (or the Yankees & Red Sox in MLB). There was a good 15 year chunk where the Celtics were irrelevant and no one outside New England cared about them. The Lakers are always on the minds of ESPN and the national sports media no matter how terrible they are. They’re the Kardashians of the sports world.
