Hello all! I'm moving to Baton Rouge to attend LSU as a grad student, and will not be bringing any furniture with me for my 1 bedroom apartment near campus. I was just going to ask you guys to see if you have any ideas of good places to find cheap furniture. I will need a bed, dining room set, couch, dresser, etc.

Also, I don't have a truck or a large car. Is there a place to rent trucks that you'd recommend, or should I just try to make friends with the random guy who happens to own a truck? haha.

Thanks! I'm excited about moving very soon!

Thanks! Only issue with this is the trucks are for rental epr 4 hours, and I'd have to make sure I could buy everything in the same day. Are there any secondhand or used furniture stores that I could check out when I get into town, before renting a truck?

I just bought new & furnished my apartment for under $2000 from Home Furniture... not sure if that's in your budget but they also deliver and set up whatever you buy. Stats about all US cities - real estate, relocation info, house prices, home value estimator, recent sales, cost of living, crime, race, income, photos, education, maps, weather, houses, schools, neighborhoods, and more

Is this considered advertising?

Your best bet might be to talk to your fellow grad students. Typically the grad students work so closely they develop a clique, and surely one of them has a p/u truck.

Hand-me-downs is probably the way I would go, except for the mattress. Check out craigslist and the classifieds in The Advocate. Baton Rouge news, sports and entertainment on 2theadvocate.com
