I am moving to Baton Rouge in the fall. I have two boys, one in the ninth grade and one in the tenth. I also have a three year old. My sons play football and baseball. My husband and I will work on Gardere Lane at the wastewater treatment plant. I am looking for a safe area to live. The best public school and daycare. I really don't want to drive more than 20 minutes to work. Please help!!!

sgarrettpooh,

Louisiana welcome you. You would be best served moving to Ascension parish. Great area, great public schools (see www.greatschools.org) and we absolutely love it out here. You can probably make it to Gardere within 20 minutes.

I'd be happy to help you find something. Thanks.

John

Look in the Ascension area...Prairieville, Dutchtown, Gonzales areas if you want the better public schools that can get you about 20min from work. Rental ranges can be all over, so you'll just have to be on the look out.

Definitely nothing in the area where you'll be working (lots of crime around Gardere). Southdowns, Kenilworth and other subdivisions in Baton Rouge are good areas to rent in your price range. You can check out different classifieds like Facebook Marketplace, craigslist and 2theadvocate.com . CJ Brown has a good site for searching subdivisions. Missy Roberts was our agent and she was very helpful. She'd even go to a property you are interested in and take pictures and e-mail them to you. I'd steer away from Tigerland (college student/party area) although it's very inexpensive compared to a lot of areas...the more inexpensive, usually, the less desirable the are. Denham Springs is also where a lot of people live who commute to work in Baton Rouge.
