hi all,
has anyone else had this happen to them? i lived in louisiana for the year 2008 and filed state and federal tax forms -no problems- a couple of months ago i get a letter saying i owe like 4000 dollars to louisiana for 2007 state income taxes- only i didn't live in or work in la. in 2007- so i call and write a letter as i'm told -explaining this- not good enough- i get more letters ( slightly more threatening)- so, i call again and send what they tell me to send.. guess what?? i get another letter saying they're going to seize my property ( not only do i not own property in la.- i don't even live there anymore!- also, they will issue a warrant for distraint?--so according to the paperwork- i can pay the full amount, pay the full amount under protest- or file a formal petition which of course has filing fees- since when is it my responsibility to prove to a state that i did not live or work there for a particular year? according to the lady i spoke with on the phone, whenever you file a federal form for taxes for a year and use a la. address , they do this to you. So i filed my 2007 federal taxes using my la. address because i moved to la. in 2008-ridiculous!!!!!!

This will never happen. I would, though, contact an attorney here in the state who can help you with this. It shouldn't cost you much for him to take care of this for you once and for all.

Doesn't surprise me. Louisiana is pretty incompetent with this stuff. They preach about being a low tax low spend state, but they do everything possible to get their hands on your money.

Nothing, but no one else seems to be such an expert either. For such a "low tax low spend state," all of the Governor's friends sure seem to get every tax break or earmark one can think of.
