I don't believe the story either. Mixed couples are hardly of note anymore.

Sat at a table next to a mixed couple at Ruth's Chris on Saturday. Nobody around us seemed to take notice that they had different colored skin. Their waiter treated them the same as our waiter treated us.

Speaking of mixed couples, I'm involved with a white woman here in Houston and she finds it amazing at the amount of people that stare at us. Mind you we live in the Westheimer/Post Oak/Galleria area. I've been used to it but I thought for sure we would get less looks and stares than when I was in Baton Rouge with my white ex-girlfriend.

A beautiful town with an ugly attitude. When I arrived here and stated where I am from the attitudes were that I am ignorant and all the people where I am from are harden criminals so I had to be the butt of racist jokes and stares. I beat them down when I proved them wrong at that time.
I believe the racism is not just toward blacks or whites but also for the non employed or less fortunate people. If you say you live near or in the Gardere area you are told to leave because the people there are bad, or they don't want anything. Not everyone in that area are bad people or unemployed. What is needed is more resources and activities as well as businesses in that area. Something for families to do with their kids in the area where they can take a bus or walk to. There are no restraunts in that area, no theaters, no walmart, target, no bowling, skating, theater, casino, celebration station, no clothing stores, cell phone companies. The burbank area is nice but have very very little.
Seriously the crime is just as bad as anywhere else and the cooking is the worst ever. Gurl is not girl and the water is nasty and smelly. The casino is the worst play ever.
The casino you spoke of is just lame. Why would the entertainment not be a part of the gaming area, instead you come in and there is no hostess to welcome you, the entertainment appears exculsive as if you need an invite to go in and the people look at you weird if you ask any questions as if you are intruding on them. The payoff sucks too. As I stated if it was not for me working here I would have left a long time ago.
Baton Rouge has been rated one of the top for best water in the country and as for food, we are also known all over as having wonderful food here! That's all I have to add!

By the way, I am Caucasian, not white, just like you are African American, not black! I hate white, it is not "proper" anymore! Yes, I am being an a-hole, but sick of the African thing these days. My friend is Caucasian and she is from Africa, is she considered African American then?

I say black on a daily basis, I don't really like to hear African American as I normally assume that the person talking to me (usually white) is uncomfortable around me saying black. It's just a word, and I don't find that in today's time it is necessary to say African American or Caucasian, nor Mexican American, or Asain American. And yes, your friend is African American. I have known whites from South Africa that have moved to America.

Oh and we have the second best water in the country!

I don't believe in any kind of hyphen - American . Unless that person holds dual citizenships , there is no such thing .

Why is that relevant in everyday conversation ? And I disagree that most people use it for that purpose .

With saying African-American or such? Because they probably don't feel politically correct saying Mexican, black, and chinese
