I have heard horrid things about the public school system. Are there really NO good public schools (elementary)? I am having a hard time finding a Catholic Kindergarten that has openings.

Thanks.

If you've ever thought of homeschooling, but not sure where to start, Classical Conversations is a good place to look. They offer classes one day a week where children can do art, science projects, plus everyone is learning the same matierial.

Baton Rouge Schools are like this.

If your child can't get into a magnet or gifted program, then yea BR schools are terrible. But. if your child can, you are in luck, because the best education in the parish is in those programs.

Best Elementary is BR Center for Visual and Performance Arts (Magnet)
2nd Choice:Westminster (Gifted)

Middle: Glasgow(Gifted)
Glasgow wasn't always this way in my book, but it has steadily improved to be the best middle school in the parish. A lot of kids from Glasgow end up at BRMHS.

HS: Baton Rouge High school
Hands down one of the better high schools in the state, but it is very competitive (Magnet)
The gap between BRMHS and the other schools in this parish is pretty large.
