I am looking at a new job in Baton Rouge. I am moving from Missouri and do not know anything about the area. I don't know what neighborhoods are good in the area. The main thing I am looking for is safe and clean areas. Looking for houses for 135,000 or less. Any ideas?

Not true... particularly if you can go up to 140 or 150k. It can be done but it will take a lot of looking. And it depends where your job will be, how close you want to be to that job, and if you must have a SF home or would a condo or townhome do? Lots of variables, so don't count the area out.

So then it wouldn't be " 135,000 or less " , like the op asked . That new math shure is confusing huh ?

The first one is in an area I would avoid . A lot of rental property in that area . Not sure about the other two . Choose your neighborhood just as wisely as you do your home . Maybe even more so .

It's a job with the railroad. The job would be in Baton Rouge but have a lot of traveling. I have increased my price range to 150,000. Schools are not important since I have no kids.

If you are open to condos, check out "The Reserve at Cedar Lodge" right off the college drive exit on corporate blvd. You could get a 1 bedroom 1 bath unit for about 125-135K. Not exactly the biggest units in the world but the amenities and area are untouchable. If you need further info, just DM me. Good luck.

I would want to buy eventually. I have 2 dogs and I think renting would be tough with them. I have found several houses in the Denham Springs area but have read all the posts about traffic. I have only been through BR once. About the only thing I have it to compare to is Kansas City. That may not be an accurate comparison.
