Hello -

My wife and I are considering a home in the "One Hundred Oaks" subdivision. The neighborhood is beautiful and well kept, with amazing oak trees throughout. My only concern is safety. Being north of Acadian, I'm just concerned by some of the crime statistics I've seen in that area. I would love to hear from people who actually live in the neighborhood. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the advocate online and at the bottom of the main page is a crime map. There was a drive by on Valley st and that's very close to hundred oaks.

Thanks for the reply. And yea, I did see this story a few weeks back. Definitely a concern, although I'm not sure how out of the norm this incident was. Singular instances of crime happen everywhere, so I was just curious if someone in the area could speak to the general atmosphere (i.e. do you see cop cars regularly? have you ever heard gunfire? etc)

Valley Street? That's on the other side of Acadian Thruway, and quite a hike by foot.

Hundred Oaks is a lovely, historic neighborhood. The only problem you'll have is people absconding with goodies in your yard. I lived there for 3 years, and the worst that ever happened to me was two guys from Denham Springs broke into my car.

Gunfire? In Hundred Oaks? Pretty much never.

The area between Broussard, Perkins, the Interstate, and Acadian is unbelievably safe.

The neighborhood to the west (Poets and Philosophers) is tame, Broussard (to the east) has a rough south side, and the Garden District (to the north) has a rough west side.

Hundred Oaks is a delight, my only complaint with it was that some streets didn't have any fricking sidewalks.

Hundred Oaks is a great neighborhood. The high crime area that people are probably talking about is probably the Valley Park area which is on the other side of Acadian. Hundred Oaks is very quiet though, and you should have no trouble living there.

Thanks to all for the replies. All of your comments confirmed my gut feeling (i.e. that its perfectly safe), but I just wanted to do a little asking around. Take care!
