I'm not new to Baton Rouge or Louisiana, but I am new in general. I live alone and have no friends and no business connections. I'm trying to figure out a way to make money and improve the community. Part of this is going to involve learning a lot about how things work and what people need. This isn't really a very targeted thread, but I'd like any tips or help on what sort of civic activities I should get involved in, the business climate, what there is to do for fun, where to meet people. There's countless bars and clubs, what else? I've scoured the entire parish many times, so I know the layout pretty well for what it's worth. I love Louisiana and the capital naively seems like the best place to begin the road to peace and prosperity. It's understandable if I sound unrealistically idealist. Maybe everything is impenetrably corrupt? Sorry if this is the 100th thread of this type on BR city data.

That just about sums it up for Louisiana, sadly.

Of course it is. You're reading it on the Internet so it must be true.

Now, back to the magic beans...

not sure what is your formal training (i.e., what is your trade, etc.) but you should start there and find a local group of folks. If you dont' have a trade find one you like and get involved. There are lots of trade organizations with local chapters that can get you get started. Or unless you know of a specific need and have a great idea to solve it then start there and develop your product/service.

Good luck... and don't get discouraged by negativity which is never is short supply.
