Does anyone else notice the stench in the Baton Rouge air, perhaps 2-3 days per week? I would describe it as a septic tank kind of smell (reminiscent of an RV waste system being emptied).

When it's in the air, it seems it's everywhere--from Perkins & Essen, all the way west to Mid-City.

I've lived here almost 4 years; my significant other and I are both sensitive to it, but most natives I've talked to can't smell it.

Are we crazy? Does anyone else smell this, and happen to know the cause--industrial, sewer, something else?

It's 7 PM Friday evening, and it's awful, right now. Sort of ruins the outdoors for us.

Lots of sewer upgrades going on right now, actually. I don't think that's the source of the smell, though.

Some mornings wind the wind and air is right there's kind of a sooty smell that comes from the plants in North Baton Rouge. I never really thought it smelled like sewage, though. More industrial.

So happy to ready your post -- you very accurately described what I've been smelling for 2 years now. I thought it was my imagination. I'd ask BTR lifers about the smell and no one knew what I was talking about. Thanks for confirming that there is a funk in the air.

Do I look like an out of towner to you? Or do you just read half of my location.
I'm willing to bet it's the latter.

I don't care to elaborate as I'm not an expert on the situation but I'm guessing it has to be the combination of the old sewer system leaking and the plants in North Baton Rouge as MetroBTR said.
