What's Gay Life like in Baton Rouge?? Is the place tolerant of its openly gay citizens?

I don't think anyone here is openly gay (the forum) but it's not like its the 50s. Most people I've seen are tolerant of gays, especially around LSU.

It is the South, so of course it isn't anything like San Francisco, but I think overall people are relatively tolerant. Tolerant, but not necessarily welcoming.

Sex also makes a difference. I find, in general, people are more accepting of female couples than male couples.

It also varies by neighborhood. You will usually find more forward-thinking people in Downtown, the Garden District, Capital Heights, etc. than in the cookie cutter neighborhoods.

Definitely stay away from Tigerland bars if you are college aged. Alcohol makes some college students act stupider than usual.

Btw, I'm not gay; just didn't think you would get many if any gay responses.

It shouldn't be surprising that the younger generation is more accepting of the LGBT community. It's the older church men and church ladies that give everybody fits.

Otherwise, Metro makes some good points. BR doesn't exactly have a "Gay Scene". In fact, it's pretty much non-existent. This isn't to say you can't find like minded people in BR, but there's not really a lot of stuff geared towards to gay population as you would say in San Fran, Mimai, or NY, and you may have to do a bit of work to find similar people.

BTW, hi, did y'all miss me?
