Hi all, I have recently been offered a job in Independence. I have no clue about this place and can't find much on the Google website. is this place small or big, have variety of shopping, dining, and nightlife? Is it safe? I will be moving here by myself, I am a young female, single. I come here from Italy with my mama when I was 7 I can speak English and Italian. maybe there is some neighborhood I would fit in? Is there a lot of young people I can make friends with? I need a nice place to live that I fit in. Is it expensive to live there? Thank you.

Really small town, it's not ideal for a young person to move to looking for nightlife or other young people.

I wouldn't think you would want to live in Independence itself. However, Hammond is about a 15 to 20 minute easy drive, and it seems to have a lot going on for a town of its size. If you're in your twenties there should be plenty of university students around for you to socialize with. As far as expenses it should be pretty cheap, but IDK. Where do you live now, and would you be comfortable living in a smaller town (I think Hammond has about 30k population)? I think its a good size but everyone is different.

There's also Covington and Mandeville. It would increase your commute to about 35 minutes or so if you lived there, but lots of people love the area. Lots of people of Italian descent there too. If the job seems promising I would take it... the economy is bad right now.

Post Good

Independence is a bit Country, with a few good places to eat.
The Biggest benefit is that it is just a short ride to Hammond or even
Mandeville/Covington which is right across the lake from Metarie/New Orleans.
