I am getting ready to take my family on our first camping trip. Does anyone know of any good places to go tent camping? I see all of the state parks online, but I'm also looking for other options. We live in Baton Rouge and we're looking for something fairly close because we've got 2 and 3 year old girls and we're uncertain of how they'll react to sleeping outside.

Tickfaw? Just north of Hammond. Possibly Kisatchie National Forest north of Alexandria. Not sure what is considered close for you.

We actually decided on Tickfaw in a couple of weeks. Are there any spots that you can just pop a tent in the woods, not in a campground?

Without trespassing on private property, not sure.

It's starting to get kind of warm for tent camping . Snakes , Chiggers , Skeeters , etc.
