Mousing around on Google I found a curious building on Greenwell Springs: "The Real Superstore". From Google searches, it was only a supermarket (unlike its Canadian counterpart) and was closed when National was sold off in the mid-1990s (and sitting since). Anyone remember it? Was it any good?

I remember going there in the mid-late 90s, but I wasn't old enough to know if it was any good.

Something on TigerDroppings mentioned how it used the "quarter for cart" system. I do know it's still there, that's how I could find it. But it's been abandoned for years. Movie people, eh? Can it be seen in any films or television shows?

I remember that! Thanks for bringing that up.

You can see the outside in one of the movies. But it's only for a split second. I do not recall the movie. Maybe you can do a search.

When I came home to visit, back in the 80s and 90s, the Superstore was one of the largest stores on that side of town. From what I remember, it was huge.

I was a kid when my parents shopped there.

The Real Superstores were massive. I think they turned the one in Lafayette into a large movie theater.

My husband lived in Baton Rouge back then and we drive by that building all the time. He told me that intersection was "up and coming" in the mid 80's and the store was really cool. Somehow it went from up and coming to ghetto over the period of 5 or 6 years.

Allegedly the store was like a nicer super walmart/Sams before super walmarts existed.

It's being maintained by somebody . Not falling into complete ruin . I'm guessing it's either owned by one of the movie companies or being kept available for their use as needed .

Very true..Additionally, that area has changed drastically over the years as you mentioned, and not for the better.
