My wife just got accepted into a graduate program at LSU. We currently live in the LGD and are looking for something similar as far as walkability goes. Ideally we would like a house vs. an apartment.

We are considering Gonzales/Prairieville/etc. as I work towards New Orleans but we like the uniqueness that comes with living near a city center.

Can anyone offer up suggestions of areas that may fit our needs? From what I have read so far it sounds like Mid-City, Garden District, and Spanish Towne are options? Any areas around campus that are less undergraduate?

Nothing in Gonzales/Prairieville is like the LGD. If you want that experience, it's best you look in the Garden District, Capital Heights, Beauregard Town, Spanish Town, and downtown. Most of which are in Mid-City.

Areas around LSU that aren't filled with kids are areas like Southdowns, Garden District, etc. Beware of the apartment complexes as most are full of undergrads.

I too will be relocating to Baton Rouge to attend LSU this fall. I'm moving from Ohio though, so it will be quite the adjustment for me.

What part of Ohio? We lived in Huntington, WV before moving down here.

Can anyone comment on S Ardenwood Drive? My wife and I are looking at a completely remodeled home on the Government Street end. I have heard it gets rough on Florida Blvd but we did not see anything of concern when driving around. Where we live in New Orleans seems a lot worse.

That's a nice area. North Ardenwood/Harry Dr is a bad neighborhood but I'm in the area every week and it's not a problem when you're on the good side.
