The ‘old school,’ and predominantly white (1 black) 580 all-male member Baton Rouge Country Club sits on a large tract of land and pays very little (roughly $108,000) in property taxes and $221,000 in sales taxes on a 586-acre tract of land in the center of Baton Rouge.

Rumors have swirled recently that ongoing studies have shown that if the City of Baton Rouge / Parish of East Baton Rouge were to expropriate this land and connect Essen to Tara Boulevard traffic in the area would co siderably be alleviated.

Furthermore, the ensuing development of over 500 homes, and commercial development would swell property and sales taxes to upwards of $20 million per year.

Governments have the power of ‘emnenent domain’ - the taking of property for the good of all. Behind the scenes road contractors, tract builders, commercial developers, municipal bond financiers and others are lining up to make this happen.

With the breakaway of St. George, it is a win-win for Mayor Broome and the council. Less traffic, more revenue, and voter satisfaction. So what if some old white male geezers can play golf in the middle of town. New golf clubs in the suburbs have opened, let them play there. Sherwood, Fairwood, Briarwood, and Shenandoah have closed. BREC offers golf in public facilities.

Let’s get behind this and fix the traffic on Jefferson, Essen, Airline, and all over this area. Let’s get some tax money into Baton Rouge and get this going.

There is some big money from New York behind this. They don’t care about the local yokel whose-your-mamma crap. They want to place the bonds, get the road built, and open the door to a better Baton Rouge.

This will happen! Out with the old, in with the new!

It wouldn't fix traffic it would be adding to some of the problem, it wouldn't stop St. George, and adding more value to a side of town that sure a hell doesn't need it? Nah I'm good on developing because you can.

I don’t think this would make traffic better. More than likely, the additional housing And businesses would add traffic and pollution to the area. It would also increase traffic through Tara as well, diminishing quality of life there, much like Sherwood Forest does to that neighborhood.

Plus, I enjoy that there are still areas within the city that are NOT developed. I don’t care if it’’s a golf course I’ll never set foot on. Same with roads like Highland. Totally cool with rich folks keeping the somewhat rural character.

And yes, I’m aware this is a year old thread. Let us know if you hear any more “rumors” good fellow.
