Hey, so I'm currently living in New Mexico and find it really boring and I don't like my job. I got a decent job offer in Baton Rouge but have never been there before. I have a cousin in New Orleans so it would be nice to be near family, but otherwise what can you tell me about Baton Rouge? I love New Orleans including the great nightlife, food, and music that it has - how similar is Baton Rouge in that regard? Is it a totally different thing or does it have some of the same elements? Also, what's the housing situation like? Is it any easy place to meet new people? As I mentioned, I'm single (recently divorced) and am hoping to start dating again soon.

Honestly, I think Baton Rouge would be heaven for a young single guy like yourself. When I used to visit, it always seemed there were more girls in most bars/clubs than guys. Can't speak of the housing market, but there's plenty of nightlife, food, and live music. It's a little more spread out than NOLA, but I'd say it's on a similar level. Lots of college students, so that keeps the nightlife lively. Hit up an LSU tailgate. Best tailgating by far.

The only bad things I can say about Baton Rouge is rush hour traffic sucks and crime can be high in some areas of town.

Awesome - thanks for the information. It sounds like a fun place. I'm gonna try and head out there to visit within a couple weeks. Are most places generally open or are things still pretty shut down?

I don't live around there anymore. Maybe a resident can elaborate.

The mayor has an ordinance on the bars, there's talks of having them close early. Wearing a mask in establishments within East Baton Rouge Parish is required.
