Inside the city, the only place north of Florida that I would consider desirable is in Downtown, between I-110 and the River. There are some neighborhoods just north of Florida that are not dangerous, but are not desirable because of their proximity to dangerous areas. Examples of such neighborhoods are Melrose, Goodwood Homesites, and Villa del Rey.

Where will you be attending school?

If you want to live that way the safest is probably across the Amite River bridge in Livingston. Where will you be going to school? There are much closer places to live to either universities.

You might consider Zachary or Central. Maybe even Port Allen since you'd be able to cross the US 190 bridge.

Thanks for the info. Of the places you mentioned would any of them be a better place to look for a house rental?
