I have been unable to get health insurance- (no one will insure me) and I need to see a Dr. I just moved here- are there any low cost clinics that anyone could recommend?

There is a place I heard about that is close to Hammond (might be too far for you). It is Albany Medical Clinic. Don't have a phone number though.

Not something I would generally suggest except as a last resort, but there are the state hospitals:
Earl K. in BTR.
Lallie Kemp in Independence (north of Hammond).

I've had a family member go to both.
I think there's a clinic over in Hammond as well, associated with or maybe just because it's close to North Oaks.

When I first moved to Baton Rouge, I was uninsured while I was in school (that was three years ago). There aren't too many options in Baton Rouge for uninsured, except for the charity hospital. The Lake After Hours clinics are very good, the staff are friendly and don't look down on you when you say you don't have insurance, and they're open late (the one on Perkins is open until 11pm, including Sundays). As I recall, they're around $85 for an uninsured visit. Not cheap, but actually cheaper than several of the other clinics in the Baton Rouge area. For emergencies, of course, it's Earl K Long hospital. For routine care, I'd check out the Lake After Hours (www.lakeafterhours.com)
