My friend told me that she heard on the radio that Baton Rouge is one of the 20 best places to "ride out" a recession. No idea if true, but to all those who say Baton Rouge is not too great, at least we can say we are not too affected by the recession at least not yet. Gotta love Baton Rouge(I did before this news came out, but love it even more now)! Also, to the poster who is moving here, why did you say it is ok to say black instead of African American? I for one, never have referred to blacks as African American because I prefer Polish-German American and nobody ever referred to me that way!

I wanted to give you reputation really bad but apparently I have to spread some rep around before I give you some more. I guess that says something about your insight.

So right about the African-American thing. I know of only one black person (who is a very good colleague of mine) who prefers to be called simply "American".

Default Economy

I was able to rep you. I think this city will be alright through this recession. The only thing I question is how the state continues to spend its money. We need to get our budget balanced this spring. I hope the guys at the Capitol can do that, but I still have my doubts.
I hear what the lady on a tv show just said. We need to be prepared for the U.S. to play a different role in the global economy. I think our golden age from post WWII to 2005 is over. The question becomes, how will we all adjust.

But who really cares about what people should or want to be called. Does it (or should it) really matter? We're all human beings. I hate to see this thread move to a question of race relations.

Wow.relax and breathe......there is comedy, media and a Black president in Baton Rouge isn't there? Reference to "Black" came from the main stream media- you know a LOL (Laugh Out Loud) I think I will stick to just being a plain American and forget all the hyphens and blah blah blahs...I sure hope every one else is much more main stream and a lot more light hearted then you! Happy days to all Americans and you to! Ciao'

We're not a boomtown, but we're certainly not in the leagues of California, Florida, Michigan, and so forth. Having government, healthcare, universities, and education provides some stability. And it's a pleasant place to live.
