We need to find an apartment near LSU that is dog-friendly and relatively safe. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know if there are apartments with shorter leases than one year, or ones that have month to month leases? We are moving to BTR the beginning of August and want to live in an apartment short term with our dog until we find a home we would like rent. Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

Most of the ones I know require some sort of 6 or 12 month initial lease, then they are willing to move to a month-to-month. But I'm sure others exist. I think most of the older units around LSU are dog friendly. The newer properties probably aren't, but there are plenty of places especially south of LSU, and it seems nearly everyone has a dog now-days. Check places along Brightside, in Tigerland, Highland Rd, Burbank and Lee Drive. Also Jennifer Jean and Parker Blvd.

At the worst, you might have to sign a 6 month lease. Most complexs around LSU are semester oriented anyway, and you'll probably want a good 6 months to get a better feel of the city anyway.

Definitely check south of LSU - there are apartments north of campus, but they're bordering some rough areas. The area I would concentrate on is bordered (give or take a block or two) by Highland, W Lee/Brightside, the Miss River, and the LSU campus.
