Baton Rouge, the new Austin LOL.

Can't see that. Far too different.

It's been very long since ANYONE has posted on here. It seems to be dead/dying. In reality, I've met plenty of people who rave about and visit Austin. I agree though, that Baton Rouge clearly doesn't want to be the new Austin lol

I don't think Baton Rouge will be thought of like Austin as far as a potential tourist destination. I think when people who live elsewhere hear Baton Rouge, they might think about LSU, but I don't think much else would come to mind. It doesn't have some of the cultural elements like Austin has. With Austin, you hear about the music, the BBQ, the keep it weird culture. You don't hear that kind of stuff about Baton Rouge.

On the other hand , the new Mayor wants to revitalize North Baton Rouge . Maybe Scotlandville can be the " new Austin ".

Austin is a pretentious city. Baton Rouge should diverse its economy and get out of the old South mentality.

Good luck on him getting to do that. He disses Austin many times but uses it when it benefits San Antonio.

No, I don't diss Austin but I call it as I see it. Austin bloggers diss every city that is not Austin. Overall I think Baton Rouge/Lafayette area will become a major metro in the next few years. I think the city should diverse its economy from just government and go after the high-tech business.

I don't see Baton Rouge and Lafayette becoming one metro. The Henderson swamp kinda stops this from happening. Baton Rouge and Hammond have a much better chance.
