I will be moving to Baton Rouge in January and I'm looking for an apartment in a safe area. I work at the airport and am looking for 1-2 bedroom for $900 or less for 2BR or $600 or less for 1BR. Can anyone give me the name of complexes, I can look them up on the maps but I don't know how safe the areas are. Thanks!!

For those prices, there are a series of apartments on Jefferson Highway 9The Warwick is one of them) between Old Hammond and Essen which seem safe (and they're in a nice part of town). From those apartments, you can easily catch the Interstate at Essen. There is also Fairway View I and II on College Drive near Webb Park, but I wasn't super impressed with these complexes in terms of what they have to offer/difficulty in getting out of the complex onto College, etc.

You might be able to get a 2br for less than $900 at those complexes, but I don't think either have 1br for under $600 anymore. I'm lucky to find anything decent looking for $700 now. But if stick to a 2br, you can usually get in some of those same complexes for under $1000 definitely.
Not to mention, The Warwick, you'll pay higher rent but get some items like electricity and water included. (It used to be like that at least).
Bienville Tower on College is an older but decent apartment complex, last I checked they had 1br for I think $650.
Jefferson East I think rents for about $690 now.
All in all you can't go wrong with most of the places along Jefferson Hwy between I-12 and Lobdell. The area is very safe.

There may be some decent places to rent up in the Baker/Zachary area, but I'm unfamiliar with rental properties up there. I do know that I'd probably pick Zachary over Baker though. Baker seems to have gone downhill the past decade or so.

This brings up another point - there are several complexes on College between I-10 and South Foster including the Fairway Views that, while they're not brand new, appear to be decent and back up onto the Webb Park golf course.
