We have 2 more weeks to stay where we are at. Husband has a job and I am still searching. Where can we go to find a place to live that is cheap.

Yes there is kids, one is 11 and the other 18, boys.
The job is on Jones Creek road and no location does not matter.
Right now we can only afford $500.00

This is sad. I would hope that there is some assistance to you and your family that would enable you to shift more of your income to the rent category. I can't think of any place where rent might be this low, maybe others do.

Nothing in my part of town, that's for sure. Although every now and then I've come across some places renting just under $600, but you really gotta look for them. Jefferson Shadow was the last place I saw that was around $550 or so, but I imagine they're up by now. That's about it for Jefferson Hwy and certainly most places in Bocage or MidCity.
Best of luck. You might want to check out older rental properties, or homes, off of O'Neal. They're usually a little cheaper but for a reason too.
Also Old Hammond Hwy - Azelea. I don't usually point people there, but they have got to be cheaper, and dirtier, but the crime is nothing like north Baton Rouge. I guess if you had to, you can't beat it. A home is a home, and is what you make of it.
If you can come up to around $700 then you should be fine.

You will likely have to settle for sub-standard living conditions for a family of four. It is possible to find houses for that amount of money, but very rarely will you find one inside Baton Rouge (in a non-warzone). Once you get here I would suggest you start driving around looking for "for rent" signs in the far out suburbs. Hopefully you can find a job yourself, $800 would get you much much more in Baton Rouge.

Maybe you could check out Bluebonnet Ridge Apartments. They are low-income apartments but I do have a relative who lives there and she's good people so it can't be that bad.

Noticed this on Craigslist:

1bed town house (http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/apa/1547249026.html - broken link) -- This one appears to be in the Lake Calais area. Only one bedroom, but with 850 sqft there should be room to put a bed for the boys somewhere.

FWIW, I'd recommend Bluebonnet Ridge WAY before Lake Calais. But I do agree that $500/month limits your options.
