Is Gonzales a very safe place to live? I keep on hearing mixed things on it. I'd like to find out the safest place in the Gonzales area...such as Gonzales and surrounding towns. Thanks!

I have lived in the area fo 10 years and I love it here. My mother lived here for 30 or so years and there has never been any problems.

I may live in a protected world of my own but I haven't seen anything or heard anything bad about the area. I keep my front door open and windows up all day.

It sounds like a nice location. Do you know if it is like that in most parts of Gonzales?

I am sure there are area that are best to be avoided but I have never heard anyone say "Stay aways from......"

I find it very nice here and I have always felt safe. (except for when that serial killer was loose in Baton Rouge and everybody was scared!) I am sure we have the same drug problems here, people killing people and such as that but the biggest news that makes TV is always the people that get killed on the highways around here. Since Katrina, the traffic has gotten really bad and more people are getting killed on the highways I-10 & I-12..

Hi there,

Did you hear about The Village at Fountain Lake- 2419 West Orice Roth Road Gonzales, LA 70737? Do you recommend it to live there? Is the area safe to live? Please I need your advice.

Thanks a lot.

In terms of Gonzales, you can pretty much tell by just driving around. Like the previous person said, there are fine places, and then there's places you can just tell by looking to avoid. One question is, where are you moving from? Pelican Point is a draw for folks, but this depends on where you're working as well. We live in Dutchtown in a neighborhood that popped up post Katrina. Prarieville trends a bit nicer/newer than Gonzales and heads you back north towards BR...but all in all they're all clustered together and pretty decent area to live. We moved into the house in April and are quite happy with the decision.

I lived in Burnside (technically, but everyone calls it Gonzales) for over 5 years and absolutely loved it. We had no problems with crime or any safety issues. Everyone is friendly for the most part and the community is definitely growing. The area I lived in had 4 neighborhoods: Pelican Point, Pelican Crossing, Ascension Trace, and River Ridge, and many single family homes not in subdivisions. All were really nice, quiet, and seemed well-kept. It depends on what you're looking for, but you can definitely find a nice, safe, home in Gonzales. I also loved it b/c it was convenient to both New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

We are also moving to the Gonzales area soon, I wonder if anyone could tell me about a small community outside of Gonzales with smaller schools? I would like the convenience of being close to a larger town like Prairieville or Gonzales, but would prefer to be in a more rural setting. My husband will be working in Convent so anything thats within 45 or so minutes of that. Thanks!!

My personal feelings are that Prairieville and Dutchtown are the better areas in/around Gonzales. Most people would agree that Dutchtown HS is much better than East Ascension HS and St Amant HS.

The problem about living further south of Ascension and the particular areas mentioned by Geaux is that if you want quality schools, and many would say even in Ascension, you're going to have to go private. I'm no expert, but I believe if you go further south to a Sorrento, etc. you'd be bringing the kid back north for even quality private school. I defer to the "old timers" on that last remark though.
