I just rented (netflix) the John Wayne and Katharine Hepburn's movie from 1975 Rooster Cogburn.

The movie was shot (according to wikipedia) in the area west of Bend... and I am wondering if it was shot more around Sisters and/or the Cascade lakes highway?

Any comments on the whereabouts where the film was shot

The rapids: are at Benham Falls...... Go to the Lava Butte exit off Hwy 97, and take the paved road NF-9702 about 5 miles to the end. If you have never been there... I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

Here is what Wikipedia says about the film:
The film was shot in Deschutes County, Oregon, west of the town of Bend (for the mountain scenes), on the Deschutes River for the whitewater rapids, and on the Rogue River in the counties of Josephine and Curry, west of the town of Grants Pass (for the river scenes). Smith Rock State Park was a setting as well; the Rockhard/Smith Rock Climbing Guides building at the park entrance was originally built as a set for the movie, where it was portrayed as "Kate's Saloon".

... ...
No, it was shot in part west of Bend as you stated. The Rogue is a couple of hundred miles away.

I lived in Bend at this time, my brother got to meet John Wayne. I know some scenes were shot around Shevlin park in West Bend.

A small number of scenes were shot in the Bend area. The majority were shot in Jackson and Josephine counties. Although several of the none river scenes were also shot in Deschutes county.

Does anyone know if this is the building used as Kate's Saloon?

Kate's Saloon is in Smith Rock State Park and is still standing.

Smith Rock also played an important role in the John Wayne-Katharine Hepburn film “Rooster Cogburn” (1975). A building at the park entrance, a longtime home to the Smith Rock Climbing Guides, was built for the movie as Kate’s Saloon. Mountain scenes in “Rooster Cogburn” were shot in the Cascades west of Bend; the river scenes were filmed on the Rogue River west of Grants Pass.

I shot this yesterday at the entrance to Smith Rock State Park, but it's an ice cream parlor now, not Smith Rock Climbing Guides. Guess I'll get Rooster from Netflix and see if I can match it.

From Lodi News-Sentinel May 13, 2000: "When scenes for the movie Rooster Cogburn were filmed nearby, the production built several buildings to represent the fictional Goldstrike City nearby. After the movie was finished, the Days were given Kate's Saloon, which they moved to the store site."

So it appears the store, built in 1966, predates "Kate's Saloon" which was added in the mid-1970s, possibly the building just to the east of the ice cream parlor.
