... to explain to you why your property tax might have gone up even though what your house is worth went down.

Property Tax Values - YouTube

It was a nice idea, anyway, for the county to put it together and it doesn't exactly look like a high-dollar video...

That doesn't look like Bend. Where did they take the video of that house. I guess I have never been in that part of town.

Great video, PNW-type-gal. I went to the Graph It link on the county website and it appears my property is one that is slated for a higher tax bill. What I'm still confused about is when the real market value was assessed? In the video, all 3 homes were new build, giving me the impression that's when it would be assessed. However, my home was built in 1972, but my graph only goes back to 2008-09. We bought the home in 2009, so I'm guessing that's when it was assessed for the RMV? Or maybe I'm still not understanding this. I probably need to watch this video when I really have time to digest it.

It is confusing!

Here's another explanation that may help.

This year, when many Crook County residents receive their property tax bill, they may be in for quite a shock.

Delta, It says the real market value is assessed in January of the preceding year. and continues on an ongoing basis. If your property is assesed as being worth more than the maximum Assesed value you can count on the 3% every year. The only timwe you would get a big jump is if you had a lower tax bill last year due to the RMV being lower than the assesed Value. That is if I understand it correctly.

So unlike some states that set assesed value every 7 years or so, this is done every year.
