I had taken Coast Starlight again, and about an hour after it leaves Chemult (in the direction of Eugene), had seen extremely beautifun canyon of enormous size, heavily foreste. Do you know what that canyon is and what is the name/number of the road that goes there? I think it's inside Deschutes National forest. I would like to camp there some day...

Did your train travel through the canyon? From Chemult, I believe Amtrak goes over Willamette Pass. Steve Pickering, above, may be right.

Looking over those pictures made me want to take another train trip. Amtrak has again instituted Rail Passes, but instead of the old three zone they have 15, 30, and 45 day segment passes now. You can't drive and sight see for the price. Fuel is just too high and there are places you will see from the train, that cars can not get too. The railroad's generations ago took the best river routes before the greeenies put a stop to it, and they are carved in stone forever.

Nice video. It does bring back wonderful memories of my family's trip to Seattle in 2011. We went through the canyon in August and it was spectacular. My son took some awesome pictures of the whole train ride - both ways.
I compared my pictures with these just to make sure they were the same canyon, nice to know the name now.

One of my favorite train trips was to Chicago from Eugene with my FT-897 and a Screwdriver Antenna in a Roomette. Really Cool and a lot of Counties.

I love Train Travel.

Well, I certainly have to agree with that one.
Train travel, whether it be the Steam trains, Amtrak, or the high speed trains of Europe, are a wonderful way to get there!
