I saw problems with that in Austin, although it should be noted OSU-C is going to be nothing at all like UT.

The way to fix it if you're a resident is lobby the city to create neighborhood parking zones where only residents can park (this is what happens in Boston and Cambridge) or 1-2 hour street parking and enforce it strictly. It only took a couple tickets to disabuse me from ever again trying to park in the nearby neighborhood and walk to class.

I'd guess they'll have to do something like that although the 2 hour parking limit can create more congestion because the kids are constantly moving cars around to avoid tickets.

Yes. Neighborhood resident parking permits. Only I hope it works differently than Portland, where the permits cost money and you don't have to actually live in the neighborhood to buy a parking permit.

I do wish the progressives would give up their unfounded idea that if you remove all the parking nobody will drive a car. Life just doesn't work that way.

No one on this forum or, in my experience, at the city level has advocated to remove all parking.

You're right, life doesn't work that way.

That said, a reduction of parking, especially free parking, has been proven to change behaviors.

It clearly hasn't worked at UO or OSU Corvallis.

Yeah, all the people worried about the potential 5,000 OSU-C students should really be worried about the 20,000 new residents we're going to have by 2025.

The number I've read is 8,000 to 10,000 OSU-C students.

Regardless, the new non-student residents will be spread throughout the town and won't commute to the same address on a daily basis. That traffic impact will be much less then what will come with 5,000 or more students commuting to the same address in an already congested area of town.

Just received this notice:

Quote:
The TRUTH in SITE Coalition filed a petition for review in the Oregon Supreme Court today (20 October 2015). TiS has consulted with many and believes that it is in the best interests of the community to continue our legal challenge to the OSU-C 10-acre site plan.

The Oregon Supreme Court hears about 10% of the cases filed. We will keep you updated.

I'm going to laugh when the campus is built and running and Truth in Site is still filing appeals.
