Hiked up/down Paulina Peak trail today at noon. Saw a total of two other hikers on the hiker only trail. Traffic around Bend was very heavy with lots of out of state plates. Fun watching the floaters hunt for parking spots along Reed Market.

I will be there soon with my VA plate.

Researching OR drivers license, licensing the car I am leaving with my daughter in VA. Understand I have to take a drivers license test.

You have to take a written (computer) driver test. Read the book thoroughly and take some on-line practice tests first. I flunked mine the first time. Sample questions: What do you do when a horseback rider raises their right hand? On what date must you remove studded snow tires?

Its still on the early side for tourists mobbing the 6000+ ft elevations. That will change in just a couple of weeks.

Just found out that Spark's Lake was packed this weekend. The town was as crowded as I've ever seen it. Feels like the 4th has grown to be 10x bigger than it was 10 years ago. Great for pictures!

I have found Newberry Crater does not draw the crowds and traffic like the trails and lakes off of Cascade Lakes Highway.

My recollection is July 4th and Labor day are always busy around town. Would be interesting to see if any of the tourist agencies have stats to show the growth you feel.

I need to dig through my archives to see if I can do a before and after with pics. The Pet Parade, July 4th activities in Drake Park, and the Freedom Ride were absolutely mobbed. The cool thing was that overall people were friendly and happy. The family friendly activities were a hoot to watch.

Totally unscientific, but the pet parade seems way more busy than it has in previous years. All of our "secret" parking spots were gone and the crowds seemed to be a row more.

I'll put a few more up in the pictures thread but the pics really couldn't capture the crowd - it was just too big. Felt like I was in a very big city with wall to wall people!
