If you have a choice with Corvallis, go there. One might say that I have some variant of adult ASD/ADD and had no issues with my studies at Oregon State University, I was accepted very well by the town and its people.

Bend ...... The people, didn't have much interest interacting with me due to my interest in intellectual matters. I did better in Reno, Carson City, and Lake Tahoe / Truckee area.
Really? My son is autistic and it's obvious in some ways. We have been treated kindly there but we are tourists so I am wondering if you are implying a bullying culture. I have no interest in moving to Bend it where we are in OR we have met a great community of people that accept us.

There are white supremacists in places like Bend, Flagstaff, Show Low, and other mountain towns. Anyone with minor differences could be treated poorly, assaulted, or just ignored. Corvallis, has about 70 percent with a bachelor's and 40 percent with a masters, and highly educated folks are more tolerant of diversity. Bends old city council wanted to grow the city with a new university and business start ups, so they could be more like the Willamette valley. They were thrown out by anti growth folks now the city's future is uncertain.

Good to know. Interesting. I wonder how things will change with the new university and as more entrepreneurs move in. Bend already seems to have a good amount of educated people living there. I am sure things will change but sad to hear of your negative experiences.

Oh dear. Don't worry about my negative experiences. Instead, I'd suggest calling the school district and see if they can accomodate ASD/ADD or if they think that Corvallis or Portland might be better. Yes, as you point out, things will change with new entrepreneurs moved in. However, with the State of Oregon restricting Bend's growth, along with the new anti-growth City Council, this will take more time than it otherwise has to. I do see in local elections that Deschusets County (Bend) is now a "Swing" county so things are changing.

Bend is great but we are happy where we are. Every school district has a spec Ed program that educates autistic kids. Some districts are better than others so that's a huge reason we are living where we are. Thanks for the info.

I have lived in Bend for 8 years and I completely disagree with theoaks. I was a substitute teacher for the school district for a year when we first moved here and I did not see anything as suggested. In fact, I feel like compared to where I moved from in Colorado, Bend is way more inclusive and accepting of all people.

I've found many friends of all education and life experience backgrounds. I will say that this has been the easiest place for me to make friends as an adult since college.

In terms of the white supremacist comments, wow. I have no idea where that came from. I'm sure there are a few people like that here, but I would never call define Bend by that. We are pretty much the opposite. I'm not sure where theoaks is getting their information from, but I can assure you it is not like how they describe. Bend has it's issues, especially in terms of growth and tourism, but racism is not something that is common here. It's just not.

White supremacists do not define Bend, but they are in the outskirts of all of Eastern Oregon. I've seen a skinhead in Bend at the McDonalds, so they do come into town for business and commerce. The white supremacists like the smaller more rural areas in any state - i.e. Show Low, AZ, Palm Springs, Flagstaff, Bend, Klamath Falls, the Applegate Valley, etc.

Glad to hear that you have a different perspective since it is important to realize that everyone on this forum has had different and unique experiences.
