Well, if the Nosler ammunition factory in Bend was on your itinerary, you may have to re-think.

It's rather amazing that none of the 100 people inside were injured when things went Kablooie

Will you be in Sisters for the quilt show on July 10th? If so, be prepared for crowds and make your reservations early. Sisters has a wonderful restaurant called Jen's Garden. It's very small - reservation a must. The owners of Jen's recently took over the fine dining restaurant at the Five Pines Lodge Resort on the east end of Sisters. It is called Thyme. Haven't tried it yet. Also at the 5 Pines Resort is Three Creeks Brewery which is supposed to be good too (for more casual fare).

You don't mention what your interests are, so here's a brief list of things to do in and around Bend: the High Desert Museum; golf (lots of golf here); drive the Cascade Lakes Highway and get off at some of the lake exits; go rock climbing at Smith Rock (north of Bend); take a tour of Deschutes Brewery; Sunriver Nature Center; take a culinary tour with the Well Traveled Fork or a midnight canoe trip with Wanderlust Tours; First Friday Art Walk downtown (if you're here then) or the Sunriver Wine Festival if you're here late July; the Lava Lands Visitor's Center at the Newberry Volcanic National Monument may inspire you to tour a lava tube

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from - 900 Wall, Staccato, the Blacksmith, Ariana's, Toomies Thai, Bo Asian Bistro, several brew pubs - what kind of food do you like?

When my kids were little they used to like to go to the fish hatchery at Camp Sherman and also the head of the Metolius River...it's not every day that you can see basically a full formed river blasting out of the side of a mountain...

I second these recommendations...and definitely recommend the midnight canoe trip with Wanderlust Tours:

We went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

If you're into stars, do check out the Sunriver Nature Center and their observatory programs:
Hours-Location (http://www.sunrivernaturecenter.org/html/hours-location.html - broken link)
(A great place to lunch right by there is the Trout House Restaurant:
Blank )

Also, on the subject of stars, the Pine Mountain Observatory would be worth checking into (we haven't been able to time our visits right for this yet):

I'd also second the other recommendations--and The Trout House is good.

I forgot to mention the High Desert Museum--it's interesting.

Great fly fishing on the Metolius and the Deschutes.

Great golf at Sunriver.
