Can anyone PM me some solar companies and/or contractors on the Big Island or who do work on the Big Island please? I have contacted three (3) companies so far and only 1 has gotten back with me and they were supposed to send me a quote over a week ago and still nothing. Company name is fine as I can Google the rest but if you have a phone number and contact person that would be great. I am looking at doing a grid tie in.

This is what we call "Hawai'i time." Prepare yourself. It's common, don't take it personally. Even in a down economy with people begging for work, there is often an intricate dance that must be performed to get information. Too relaxed seems like you don't care and too persistent seems like you might be a "problem customer."

Wish I could help with your question, but I'm on Maui. Great posters over on Moku Nui will help you with specifics.

Best of luck.

If you aren't here, with an 808 area code number to return a call to, you won't get much attention from any company, no matter what the type of business is. Companies here get way too many "What if" questions from mainlanders for them to be concerned about a possible loss of a sale. You also have to be aware of the time zone difference.

Which part of the Big Island? Most contractors don't work on the other side of the island unless it's a really big job. It can take several hours to drive from one side to the other. Add in the price of gas and the poor gas mileage of most contractor's trucks, it can add hundreds of dollars to a quote if the contractor has to factor in distance to a far away job site.

Thank you, I will give her a call. Hope they do work on the BI.

The job will be on the East side in Leilani Estates. I have an 808 phone number and I will be on the island full time in November. I am aware of the time zone difference and it actually helps out as I am home of an evening ito take a call if anyone calls back. I realize things move differently on the islands but considering the money involved in solar projects and the current economy I expected a better response.

You might call Pahoa Battery & Propane @ 808 965 9499 They've been in business selling solar over 20 years, so should know all the local contractors.
