We have been visitors to the island of Hawaii since 1990 and have enjoyed our annual stays at Hilo and Waikoloa over the years. I have had by-pass heart surgery and am a bit concerned about cardiology services available on the Big Island in the event of heart problem. Just wondering what services are available and how long it would take, generally, to medi-vac to Oahu where I surmise more advanced treatment might be available. Any advice from folks who have had to consider this issue would be appreciated and would help us to plan our future stays. I would really miss playing with my ukulele group this winter if we can't visit again.

Is there any way your mainland doctor can set you up with whatever medication you'd need in case of trouble?

More than likely you would be sent to Maui Memorial Medical Center in case of dramatic cardiac situation. MMMC has state of the art programs/equipment/Physicians in place. Have you Dr check them out.

Thank you for your responses. If all goes well, hope to make our 22nd annual stay in Hawaii. Just don't know which island yet.
